INTRODUCTION

To succeed in today’s highly competitive environment, students must be motivated with a sustained desire to excel. A holistic vision of education is imperative. Comprehensive early childhood care and education programmes improve children’s well being, prepare them for primary school and give them a better chance of succeeding once they are in school. The overall goal is to ensure that school is a place where all children participate and are treated equally. Along with this, they should be armed with a thorough understanding of the English language, the de-facto lingua franca of the world. Realizing the immediate need for an institution, which could fulfill these requirements, a teacher of an Hindi High School, Late Rajeshwar Prasad Singh took upon himself to achieve this dream and established the school in 1995 with only 17 students.

The school stands for academic excellence, development of skills and character formation based on the sincere, devoted effort and commitment of the teachers and staff of the school.

The school is managed by the SILIGURI MILTON EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY, a registered society under West Bengal Societies Registration Act. The School which is recognised by the W.B.B.S. Education w.e.f. the session 2009-10 is the second English Medium School in the city to have been affiliated by W.B.B.S.E. It has earned its recognition as a senior secondary school from the W.B.C.H.S.E. in 2012.

Safety

MILTON ENGLISH HIGH SCHOOL is committed to creating a safe, welcoming environment for students, staff members, and visitors. The most important responsibility of all employees is the safety of our students. Following are various safety measure taken by the school authorities for the betterment of a child.

School building is made as per the norms under National Building Code.
The CCTV monitoring system is monitored regularly.
Classroom door and emergency doors are clear of obstruction.
Fire extinguishers are in place.
School has separate toilets as per prescribed, for girls and boys.
There are attendants for children in age group for 3-6 years to assist children
Rooms are properly illuminated with lighting.
The school has a fire safety certificate.
The fire safety certificate of school is updated and renewed periodically.
The school has adequate fire fighting systems in place to meet any emergency..

Regular Classes

Regular Classes are designed for comprehensive preparation. The main feature of regular classes is that all subjects are taught from basic to advanced level. Classroom learning helps students and teachers know each other in a better manner. This allows teachers to know the students and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses better, act as mentors, and guide students in their career possibilities.

House System

MILTON ENGLISH HIGH SCHOOL has rich and varied curricular and enrichment programme for students to participate in, ranging from community and charitable work, to musical, dramatic, sporting and artistic activities. There are so many ways in which our students engage in the wider life of the school that it seems only fitting to ensure that the house system is used as a vehicle to reward student participation. The House system aims to build relationships,foster a sense of pride and encourages students to take on the leadership of all house activity. House system inculcates responsibility in the students. Apart from this, it also generates teamwork and sense of belongingness amongst the students.

Sufficient Classrooms

This is one of the most basic elements necessary to ensure access to education. School classrooms are the most common place in which structured learning takes place with groups of children. There is sufficient space for 30-40 children per classroom, to permit efficient use of teachers.

Transportation

The School has a fleet of 2 buses which may be utilized by students for commuting to and from School. The buses have their fixed routes and will not go into narrow roads. Pupils, then, must board the bus at the given location on the main road.Those interested may enquire at the School Office..

Sports Facilities

At MILTON ENGLISH HIGH SCHOOL, sports and games curriculum is an integral and compulsory part of the education process. Sports help to build character and teach the importance of discipline in life. It inculcates a respect for rules and allows the participants to learn the value to self control. Our school is equipped with new-age facilities that aid the students to elevate their everyday life and give a comfortable space to pursue their passion.

Milton English School adopts a holistic approach to education. Every human being is different in its intellectual, emotional, social, physical, artistic, creative and spiritual potentials. The needs and requirements of each individual are different from the other, consequently the infrastructure at school aims at catering the needs of each individual apart from the individualised instruction. It seeks to engage students in the teaching/learning process and encourage personal and collective responsibility.
